You need to know everything about the new BRT buses in Karachi

Karachi has finally got the first cargo of 40 Green Line buses after a long wait. They landed at the Karachi Port Trust on a ship from China on Sunday afternoon.

The buses, which are 18 meters long and feature 40 seats, can transport up to 140 passengers at a time. The imported vehicles meet Euro 3 emissions requirements, which means the buses emit less carbon monoxide.

Batteries and diesel will power hybrid cars. They feature a customised ramp for persons with impairments, as well as chairs with two seats.

As Shah Zaman, the country head of the vehicle firm explained, the government intends to educate 200 men and women to run the buses.

"To take a trip, travelers will have the choice of purchasing tickets in cash or using a credit card, with payments made on a monthly basis," he said further.

In less than two months, buses will be on the road.

The Federal Planning Minister, Asad Umar, stated that the buses will begin operating in the next two months during a press conference held at Karachi Port on Sunday. There is a track in place, as well as a control room that has been built.

"The permission for the Rs250 billion Karachi Circular Railway will also be awarded by Thursday," says the official.

Umar went on to say that 54 kilometers of new roads are being built in the city.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said earlier this month that the BRT project in Karachi will be launched within a month of its groundbreaking.

The project was initiated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016, with the goal of completing it within a year. Although the project was started, it was left unfinished for a variety of reasons. It was expected to cost Rs25 billion, according to the estimates.

The Standing Committee on Planning and Development of the National Assembly was informed in July 2020 that the Green Line BRT service will begin between March and June 2021, according to a briefing given to the committee.
